This site allows me to show some of my work and activities, both completed and works in progress.
My work surrounds the concept of Obsessive Sentimentality.
I am interested in the irrational need people have to preserve otherwise useless or invaluable objects. Memory is not enough for the nostalgic. We need something tangible to encapsulate our recollections. The physical token provides comfort and reassurance, while offering permanence.
Assemblage and installation based, the work is contemporary in it’s palette and form, straying away from the ‘kitsch’ often associated with aged items. I combine typed text with gathered objects and constructed displays. The use of recognised items allows the viewer to relate to the work and attach a personal narrative. My own sentimental attachment encourages context while not being overly confessional.
Thanks for visiting.
